What to do if you break down on the road in Spain

  1. Switch on your hazard lights and stop as far to the right as you can, on the hard shoulder if there is one.
  2. Put on your reflective vest before getting out and leave the car on the side away from the traffic.
  3. Switch on the connected V16 beacon, compulsory in Spain since 2026, and wait behind the safety barrier.
  4. Call us. If anyone is injured or there is danger, call 112 first.

112 is the European emergency number and works across Spain.
